Term Activities

We set out the activities we will be doing each Term, which are guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage’s key areas of Learning and Development:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

Autumn term 1 topic is ‘All about me’.

This is the first topic of the year as it is used as the basis for helping new children and their families to settle into Playgroup. For some, it may still be the first time that they have separated from their parents so we will place great emphasis on supporting them and their families to reduce any feelings of anxiety.

Autumn Term 2 topics are ‘Animals, Seasons and Christmas’

This term we will continue talking about the seasons, noticing changes as we move from autumn into winter.
We’ll explore animals — where they live, how they move, and how we care for them — and later in the term we’ll focus on Christmas, thinking about giving, kindness, and celebrations.

Children will have opportunities to explore, play, and learn through a mixture of child-led and adult-led activities, following their interests and supporting all areas of development.
